Mel Gibson’s “Auto-da-Fe” blockbuster cancelled

8 08 2006
Malibu, CA. Producers have offiicially pulled the plug on Mel Gibson’s next film “Auto-da Fe,” a sprawling four-hour, 200 million-dollar epic based on the infamous Spanish Inquisition. Gibson’s publicist cited “rabid anti-Semitic fervor” as the reason for the film’s cancellation. He also noted that Gibson’s self-cast role as Tocquemada, “the Grand Inquisitor,” did not go over very well with the Anti-Defamation League. However, long-time friend Jodi Foster claims that “Mel has struggled with anti-semitism his entire life. It’s an addiction that alcohol has helped him cope with.”
